Man, those were good cookies

Hi there stitchers!

A fine, high-calorie, time was had by all at the post-holiday cookie exchange. Here's a sample.

Kristen brought truly diabolical brownies. Make a batch of brownies, add one chopped pecan pie to the batter (yes, that's what I said) and bake. Only Southern Living would dare be so over the top?

No, Chris topped it: Make two batches of brownie mix. Put one batch in prepared pan. Cover surface with your favorite chocolate candy bars. Add second batch on top. Bake, and sign up for an aerobics class while your fit your yoga pants still fit.

Bernadette brought fudge, oh so yummy, but we didn't get her to hand over the recipe. Still working that bit of information, do stay tuned.

Shop dogs have to careful of their figures: We depend on humans to stitch our needlepoint collars, so we dasn't outgrow them. With that in mind, Mitchell, our retail therapy dog, brought a batch of homemade dog biscuits. The recipe: Whole-wheat flour, flaxseed, yeast, and Aiken tap water, then bake 'em all night so they're good and crunchy. (Mitchell's household relocated from Berkeley; they're so whole foodish.)

Stitch 'n' Bitch resumes tomorrow--we'll be transcribing some savory appetizer recipes for you soon.

Come see our new shipment of knitting books, y'hear?

Clear out those cookies!

Hey y'all,

It's chilly, it's damp, it's the weekend, in other words it's perfect weather for sitting by the fire with your stitcher friends!

Bring your leftover holiday cookies (don't you dare bake more!) down to Barbara Sue Brodie Needleworks today. Sit by the fire, sip some libations (we'll have hot chocolate for people, fresh tap water for dogs), and share the cookies and the fellowship.

See ya! We're open 11:00 to 3:00 on Saturday.

Worldwide knit (and needlepoint) in public day

Stitchers celebrated WWKIPDay in one of Aiken’s oases—the parkway at the corners of Park and Laurens.

Aiken Department of of Public Safety was so helpful, if a little confused. "This is a parade? a demonstration? a rally? Ohh, a knit-in, gotcha." They issued a permit to assemble and warbled the sirens when patrol cars cruised through the intersection. One of their finest joined us and cranked out a very pretty scarf.

The sizable group had plenty of lemonade, sandwich delivery from Stoplight Deli, bathroom privileges at Lista’s Photography, and terrific weather. Why can’t we all spend Saturdays in the parkway with friends and our favorite pastime? Who could ask for anything more?

Well, now that you ask: Looks like the humans were having a great time, but who left the dogs out, y’all? As usual, the canine companions are back at Barbara Sue Brodie Needleworks, minding the store.

Welcome to our blog! We’ll be talking about the needlearts, trends in fiber news, and our friends in needlecraft circles and in Aiken. We’ll stalk the occasional rare yarn, talk about stitch patterns, sneak a look at needlepoint in progress, and share hors d’oeuvres recipes that will guarantee your fame as a host with the most.

Who’s talking at ya? C’est nous--the shop dogs:
  • Emma Louise, the tiny ring leader; you may address her as “Ma’am”
  • Annabelle, the big-boned gal who stars in our print ads
  • Mitchell Shopping Centre, the fiber world’s first retail therapy dog
